Visitor Advisory from the U.S. Forest Service - Payette National Forest
It’s finally snowing, hooray! As we head into the holiday weekend we wanted to provide a few reminders for all those planning to get out and enjoy the snow:
Fresh, beautiful snow + a holiday weekend = lots of people recreating on the forest! Use common sense and show kindness and courtesy to others.
• It is YOUR responsibility to know where motorized and non-motorized uses are permitted or prohibited. There have already been reports of vandalism and trespassing by winter recreationists this season. Grab a free copy of the Payette Winter Travel Map at one of our offices or online through the Avenza Map app. The map identifies designated routes and “open play areas” for over-the-snow vehicle use. https://www.fs.usda.gov/.../FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd891395.pdf #KnowBeforeYouGo
• Check out the avalanche report before you head into the backcountry here: payetteavalanche.org
• Review the grooming report for Valley County here: www.co.valley.id.us/Snowmobiling
• Winter recreation parking lots will fill to capacity early in the day, plan accordingly and follow parking signs and directions. Do not block roadways or access to private property.
• If you see something, say something! Snow rangers and law enforcement officers will be out patrolling in popular corridors this weekend.
