Here is what you need to know before visiting McCall.
Is McCall open to travelers?

Yes, McCall is open to travelers. Our retail stores, restaurants, and businesses are open although some may have some protective protocols in place, such as mask-wearing or curbside service.

Is the lake open to the public?

Yes, the lake is open as usual for boating, swimming, fishing, and more! 

Are McCall beaches and parks open?

Yes, McCall City Parks and beaches are open. 

Can I take my boat on the lake?

Yes, McCall's Payette Lake is open to boating. 

Am I required to wear a mask?

Some area businesses may require masks. We recommend following the guidelines of the CDC when deciding whether or not to wear a mask. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html

Will there be fireworks on the 4th of July?

No, the fireworks show on the Payette Lake is not scheduled for this year. The decision was made to protect citizens and visitors by reducing large crowds in small areas and the possibility of COVID transmission.

Can I drink alcohol in McCall?

Yes, alcohol is not prohibited in the City of McCall. It will be sold in stores and restaurants as usual. 

Can I drink alcohol on the beach in McCall?

Typically, yes, you can drink alcohol on the beach in McCall. During the 4th of July holiday weekend from July 3-6th, however, there are restrictions on alcohol in city parks and beaches as a part of a community partnership with the Idaho State Parks and Valley County Sheriff Office.

Is public transportation running?

As we navigate these unprecedented times, it is more important than ever that we care about one another and the places we value…and this area holds a special place in many hearts. As we begin to travel farther from home in search of fresh mountain air, solitary hiking trails and sunny days on the lake, we ask that you come prepared and knowledgeable about the places you choose to recreate.

Will there be food and game vendors?

The Lakeside Liberty Fest vendors will not be hosted at Legacy Park this year, however, there may be vendors at various approved locations in the city. Food is available at our local restaurants and as usual, there's always plenty of outdoor fun to be had in McCall. 

Can I buy fireworks in town?

Yes, generally there are 4-5 booths throughout town that are selling approved fireworks as a fundraiser looking for your support!

JAMBALAYA FOIL PACKETS

Because this can be made in advance, it takes minimal time and little fuss, this makes a great appetizer with Grilled Bread. Or serve as a Main Course over white rice or pasta.

Ingredients:

  • 2 lb Large Raw Shrimp: Peeled and Deveined. Tail or No Tail is up to you.
  • 1 lb Andouille Sausage
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper
  • 1 Medium Yellow Onion
  • ½ Cup Cleaned & Roughly Chopped Italian Parsley Leaves
  • 4 Cloves of Garlic Chopped
  • 2 TBSP Dry White Wine
  • ½ tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 TBSP Seasoning Mix
    • I Use Equal Parts Smoked Paprika, Oregano, Cayenne & Thyme
    • Store-Bought Cajun Mix Works Great Too. Just be sure to watch when you salt and pepper as many mixes already have them
  • 8 TBSB Butter Cut Into Pat Size Pieces
  • Salt & Pepper to Taste
  • Hot Sauce for Service 

Instructions

  • Slice Andouille Sausage
  • Slice Red Peppers & Onions into similar size as Andouille Sausage
  • In a Large Bowl Wisk all Wine, Worcestershire, Garlic & Seasoning Mixture
  • Add In Shrimp, Sausage, Peppers, Onions & Parsley Evenly Coat
  • Prepare Foil Packets
    • I prefer to do 2 separate packets to ensure less mess due to overstuffing
    • Place a Double layer of Heavy-Duty Aluminum Foil Approximately 16 inches in Length on Counter. Spray Top Piece Liberally with Cooking Spray.
    • Spoon ½ Mixture on to Foil. Place 1.2 Butter Pats on Mixture.
    • A few cranks of Salt & Pepper to Taste
    • Wrap First Piece Length Wise & Then Width Wise. As Tightly as Possible and Aiming to Leave as Little Air in as Possible.
    • Reinforce with Second Piece of Foil
    • Repeat with the Second Portion
  • These can Be Cooked Over a Grill, Campfire Grate or Charcoal.
  • Timing will Vary Based on Heat, but Approximately 15 minutes on a Grill.
  • Rotate with Tongs every few Minutes to Ensure Even Cook
  • Contents Should be Bubby and Steaming When you Open, SO exercise Caution
  • Served with Grilled Bread & Hot Sauce
